This is the reason our partnership account manager, Rachel, gathered her family and embarked on an unforgettable trip to Yorkshire! Read on to find out where she stayed and her tips for a family-friendly break in this historic town.

1. Where did you go and for how long? And with whom and why did you pick this area?
We stayed at Cliff View, Whitby. I booked the cottage as a surprise for my husband, daughter, dad and grandad along with our dog Luna. I picked this area as it was the perfect location for all members of the party with incredible views across to Whitby Abbey.
Originally a modest cottage from the 1920s, this property has been entirely revamped into an astonishing coastal getaway. Each room showcases an impressive level of quality, providing guests with an exceptional experience by the seaside. Located on Cliff Street, you are just a short stroll away from various lively cafés, bars, and independent shops that aim to charm you to this picturesque town. Additionally, all of Whitby's attractions are conveniently accessible, including the expansive golden beach leading to Sandsend. The front patio features glass fencing designed to enhance the stunning panoramic vistas; it serves as a sunny retreat ideal for relaxing and enjoying refreshments while observing life outside with ease. These views rank among the finest in Whitby – and they belong entirely to you!
2. Did you take a pet and if so, how did you find the dog-friendly amenities?
Yes, we brought our cockapoo, Luna, who loved her morning walks to the beach. At the cottage, she also enjoyed the views from the large living room window and loved running around the fully enclosed patio. Plus, there was no extra charge for bringing her along!

3. What are the most important aspects for you when choosing a holiday home?
The location suited the whole family, plus we could bring our dog Luna! The property offers four double bedrooms, ensuring everyone had their own space, along with a downstairs toilet and bathroom on each floor.
4. Were there any specific amenities or features of the cottage that you particularly enjoyed?
We loved the view of Whitby Abbey, especially in the evening when it was beautifully lit up for the Halloween event, "Illuminated Abbey." Additionally, we had a secure parking space right next to the property, with an extra car park nearby for additional parking.

5. What did you think of the location and its convenience to local attractions?
The location was perfect with the shops and Whitby Whalebone Arch just a few minutes' walk away, along with the beach, harbour, pubs, and arcades.
6. What were the highlights of your break? Any memorable experiences?
The highlight was spending quality time with family and creating new memories together. We also had the chance to visit my husband's grandfather in Filey, which was special as it was the first time my daughter had met him!
7. Can you describe your overall experience staying in our cottages?
We had a fantastic experience! The property had everything we needed for a perfect holiday, from the great location and parking to the stunning views. Overall, it was a beautiful property, and we will definitely be returning!

8. Did you visit any local restaurants and discover any hidden gems?
We had a lovely walk up to the Abbey and the Whalebone Arch and all enjoyed Fish & Chips for tea from the local fishery a few minutes’ walk from the cottage.
9. Did you visit any local attractions, if so where did you go and your thoughts?
We visited Filey beach, which was a highlight for Luna. She enjoyed running up and down the beach, chasing her ball, and splashing in the sea. My daughter had fun collecting shells, exploring the rockpools, and walking along the sculpture trail on the promenade.
10. What aspects of cottages.com would you recommend?
Dog-friendly holidays and the flexibility to do what we wanted, whenever we wanted. cottages.com also has an office based in Whitby, very helpful if extra support is needed! Overall, the booking process was seamless from start to finish.
